There was once a fish man name Xu. Every night he brought wine to the river, drinking while fishing. Before he started he always pour a cup into the river and pray, “the drown souls in the river, please come and drink!” Other people often fished little, but he always got a lot. One night, a young boy came to Xu. Xu invited him to drink with him, the boy accepted. Hours later Xu still didn’t manage to get any fish, he was disappointed. The boy then stood up and said “I will go to the downstream and find some fish for you.” Then he headed downstream. A while later he came back and said, “Lots of fish are coming!” Xu then put down his net, dozens were caught. He was pleased. The boy then was about to leave, Xu wanted to thank him with some fish. He rejected and said, “I get to drink your fine wine every day, such little favor needs no thanks.”
Chinese Ghost Story – Peach Thieves

Once during a Spring Festival ceremony local officers and lots of residents were watching shows. Then came a man with a little boy who offered to perform a trick. The officers decided that he shall get some peaches for them. The man agreed. He started acting troubled, “Officers are too demanding! Where can I find peaches when ice is still frozen? Well, I guess only in the gods’ garden up in the sky that peaches can be found. We have to go up into the sky to steal peaches.” Then he took out some rope from his box, made a knot and threw it in the air. The rope hanged in there in the middle of the sky, it grew longer and longer till out of sight. His son started to climb. After a while he too was out of sight. Suddenly a big peach fell down. The man offered it to the officers. They were all amazed. Out of nowhere he rope fell down from the sky, followed by a head. “No! The guards must have noticed when my son was stealing the peach!” the man cried. Then parts of the boy’s body fell down one by one. The man was devastated. He picked up the pieces of his son and put them into his box. He then begged for some money to bury his poor son. The officers all gave him lots of money trying to help the poor man. He put the money in his pocket and said, “son, come and thank the officers for the prize!” A little boy suddenly walked out from the box and bow to the officers. Ah, it was his son! One will never forget such amazing trick.
